The Christmas season is not just about receiving and giving gifts to family and friends; there is so much more to it, it’s about reaching out to strangers and the less fortunate. Our Raleigh Car Service wants to challenge you to complete at least 5 good deeds and just in case you are not sure what counts as a ‘good deed’, we have come up with this list to give you a rough idea of some of the good things you can do for others this December.
Volunteer at the Soup Kitchen
Soup kitchens are centers that give the homeless and the deprived a chance at a hot meal, shelter, living essentials, friendship, and moral support in their current situation. Remember, if you have a roof over your head, food on your table, clothes on your back, family, and friends, you are lucky and not everyone is as lucky as you are. This December, why don’t you head over to the soup kitchen and support a less privileged person even if it’s by simply giving them companionship for a couple of hours; trust us, it will go a long way in making their Christmas special.
Foster Animals
Animal shelters are understaffed during the holidays and if you have a pet-friendly home, why don’t you foster one of the animals for the duration of the holidays until they have their care-givers back. By fostering these pets, you will be creating room for a lonely creature and making their Christmas extra special. Additionally, the presence of a friendly animal around the house is quite soothing, which means you both benefit. Who knows, you might even like your new furry friend so much you decide to keep them.
Help Out in the Neighbor’s Yard
Do you have an elderly or ill neighbor? Well, you can help out in their yard by keeping their driveway shoveled and salted. If you live in a warm place, you can rake the leaves from their lawn and pile them in one place for pickup. This will save them a lot of time and effort, keep their property looking lovely, and decrease the chances of slipping accidents on icy pavements.
Babysit
Do you know of a couple that hasn’t had time to themselves lately, perhaps due to the fact that they are raising an infant? Why don’t you offer to babysit for them sometime during the holiday to give them a chance to make their holiday extra special? They will get a chance to get some holiday shopping done together, enjoy a meal outside of the house, unwind at the local watering hole etc. Plan fun activities for the kids at your place to keep the kids occupied and entertained while the parents are enjoying some much deserved alone time.
Anonymous Generosity
This is one of our favorites; do something kind for someone anonymously. You could send out some get-well cards and treats to the hospital, make an anonymous food donation to a foster home, leave someone a kind note on their windshield, etc. This is a sure way to put a smile on someone’s face instantly and it takes almost no time at all.
